Linux — a free Operating System
Linux is an operating system for PCs, similar to Microsoft Windows™ but absolutely free to share and free to change.
You can choose to have it as your main operating system, have both Windows and Linux on the same machine, or you can start up your computer from a ‘Live Linux CD’, and save your data onto a USB memory stick.
Linux comes in a variety of flavours (or distributions). We are creating a version of the Dynebolic distribution called freefree:dyne, which runs as a Live CD so you can try it out for yourself without having to install it. freefree:dyne will include all the software discussed at the public demonstration, plus it will have useful bookmarks, extensions and templates pre-installed.
The CD should be available for download in early May. In the meantime, we recommend the following linux distributions:
